5th Grade

5th graders are working on singing partner songs and identifying major vs. minor by sight and sound. Each class was introduced to a variety of partners songs and chose one to continue performing. Partner songs have two melodies that can be sung at the same time. This is a step toward independent part-singing. Through learning these songs, 5th graders have been introduced to the concept of major and minor tonality. We have identified that typically major tonality sounds triumphant, happy, or settled, where minor tonality can sound sad, spooky or unsettled.
